We live in a day and age when our homes have multiple electronics in them.  Most Americans have multiple appliances, televisions, radios, computers, modems, printers, and the list continues.  In order to prolong the life of these items and provide the best protection for them, it is important to purchase a high-quality surge protector for them.  A surge protector is a device specifically designed to protect electronics during a power surge. 

A power surge is described as a “spike” in the electrical current of your home.  The spike usually occurs extremely quickly, but always carries a possibility of damage to your appliances and electronics.  A power surge can be caused by a number of sources.  Lightning is one cause of a power surge, and it can also be a source of some of the strongest surges known.  Another cause of a power surge is when large appliances, such as dishwashers or air conditioners, turn on and off and a power surge can be formed.  Sometimes, a power surge can also be formed when the electric company is switching grids.  There is no foolproof way to prevent all power surges; however, there are steps you can take to help protect your home when a power surge does occur.
